We're excited to host Barry Driscoll at our first weekly meeting of the semester. Barry, a graduate student in the UW Political Science department, is recently returned from the field, where he is researching the efficacy of government across a developing nation and what factors determine where governance is socially productive; looking at local economies, traditional power structures, and fallible politicians and bureaucrats as possible causations. Tomorrow, he'll be offering his thoughts on several central aspects of African development, followed by a more open discussion with the group. Take this opportunity to pick the brain of someone studying the breadth of political life in developing nations! (An added bonus to this great agenda will be the presence of two EDGE alumni from the founding era, including Michelle Mazzeo, who spent a summer in Uganda with EDGE starting the first girls' football team in the area.)
See you tomorrow, 7:00 in room 2241 of Chamberlin Hall. Enter the main doors on University Avenue.
