The EDGE Project has always been strong in its values ofsustainability, integrity, and effectiveness. However, our work over this pastsummer, especially the Quench Lingira project, made us question whether or notwe were following those values. But while we may not have changed Lingira tothe extent we once wanted, we believe we have done a great deal to change ourmembers into responsible global citizens. With this in mind, we decided thatour focus must shift to a more objective style of learning to provide moretimeless lessons.
Thus, after months of careful deliberation, we will be movingon from the EDGE Project. We are building on the valuable lessons we havelearned after four summers of travelling to create a new organization, Tawi UW.Tawi will allow us to escape from some of the moral dilemmas involved in volunteeringabroad, and instead direct our attention to learning and growing asindividuals. We hope to provide faculty lectures and discourse on global issuesthroughout the year, and offer the opportunity for students to partake inself-led field studies abroad during the summer.
We would like to thank you for your support of the EDGEProject over the past five years. We have poured our hearts and souls into thisorganization, and we are saddened that its time has come. Yet we remain hopefulthat Tawi will prove to be a wiser, more responsible organization that willprovide students with a unique experience abroad and at home. We hope you willkeep in touch and learn more about our new organization!
