This past summer, we were fortunate to sow the seeds of a pen pal connection between Lingira Living Hope Secondary School and a Chicago classroom of an EDGE Alumnus's sister. Below is the first (introductory) correspondence from Lingira:

"We are students of Lingira Living Hope Secondary School, on one of the islands on Lake Victoria, Uganda, East Africa.  Before joining secondary school, we spent seven (7) years in primary school and after four(4) years in secondary we shall attend High School for two years, after which, if all is well, we shall spread to the many universities and colleges in the country.
"We are a group of the writer's club, fondly known as the Forum for Young Patriotic Journalists.
"We would like to have pen palsn from your school with whom we can exchange opinions and ideas.
"Below is a list of our names: Teacher Professor (Beyanga Pascoe)Namono Betty, Mayanja Ambrose, Aisu Emmanuel, Kronima Sabba, Kizito Maurice, Aisu Isaac, Najjemba Sharon, Kyazze Joyce, Birungi Mary, Kizile Kasifa, Nakimbugwe Florence, Asasira Crescent, Obwanga Patrick, Naigaga Shamim, Atekit Rose, Kalogo Abed, Nalukwago Olivias, Mwonge Rajab, Mirembe Suzan, Nabutono Fauza, Namuzige Gift, Magumbye Felix, Wamala Paul.

N.B. it is Ugandan custom that the last-name equivalent precedes the first name. We expect individual correspondences by the holiday season!
